Esteemed AALA/Teamsters 2010 Members,
As I was preparing to send out the attached letter to continue our collective efforts with our labor unions coordinated by AALA Teamsters 2010, advocating for the continuation of school closures, I received a notification from Labor Relations that schools will indeed be closed on Friday, January 10, 2025.
This development is a testament to what we can achieve when we stand in solidarity with all our labor partners. It marks an important step forward in our work, as it opens the door for AALA/Teamsters 2010 to collaborate closely with UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz to address the critical issues facing both teachers and administrators. Together, we will tackle these challenges as we move into our upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreements, where we will fight for improved working conditions, manageable workloads, and the restoration of a healthy balance between work and family life—ensuring that all of us are treated with the dignity and respect we deserve for the important work we do for our students and school communities.
We are stronger when we unite, and together we will continue to fight for what’s right. Our strength lies in our numbers, in our unity, and in our unwavering solidarity. We are one team, with one vision, one voice, and together, we will always be stronger.
For now, please prioritize your safety and well-being, cherish time with your families, and take a moment to reflect on our collective blessings, practicing grace and gratitude during this time. We ask you keep our school colleagues from the Palisades in your thoughts as schools there are devastated. (LA Times) The closure procedures will remain the same for Friday, January 10, 2025.
It is an honor to serve as your AALA/Teamsters 2010 President. This work is driven by the heart, and I know firsthand that we deserve better—and LAUSD must do better. We are fighting for you and Together, we will win!
