Los Angeles Unified Reaches Agreement with Labor Partners to Fully Fund Employee Health Benefits Through 2027 (12-3-25)

LOS ANGELES, CA (Dec. 3, 2025) — Los Angeles Unified School District and all labor partners signed a new agreement today that extends fully District-funded health benefits for the 2026 and 2027 plan years. Under the agreement, the District will continue to cover 100% of estimated health care benefit premiums for all eligible employees—without requiring any employee contributions toward premiums for themselves, their spouses, or their dependents.

This agreement preserves one of the most comprehensive and stable health benefit packages in public education, ensuring continued access to high-quality medical, dental, and vision coverage for the District’s workforce, retirees and their families.

Los Angeles Unified worked collaboratively with its labor partners through the Health Benefits Committee to reach this agreement, reaffirming the District’s commitment to investing directly in the well-being of employees who support students every day.

“Los Angeles Unified is proud to once again deliver on our commitment to the health and stability of the dedicated professionals who serve our students,” Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said. “By fully covering health benefit premiums through 2027, we are ensuring that our employees—and their families—can access the care they deserve without added financial burden. This agreement reflects our shared belief that supporting those who educate, nurture, and protect our students is fundamental to student success.”

“Healthcare is the most urgent need for our LAUSD employees and their families,” Board President Scott M. Schmerelson said. “I am so proud of the hard work of our Health Benefits Committee in working to negotiate the best benefits possible. I thank all of our LAUSD board members for approving the contract. Our District is again providing a superior healthcare package with no monetary changes to both active and retired employees.”

“This agreement is a victory for the hardworking employees who make our schools run every day,” Teamsters Local 572 President Adriana Salazar said. “Maintaining fully paid health care benefits gives our members peace of mind and helps ensure that they and their families can thrive. We appreciate the District’s partnership and its recognition that investing in employee well-being is essential to strong schools and strong communities.”

“Health care is a human right that would not be compromised under any circumstances,” AALA/Teamsters President Maria Nichols said. “We fought hard. We won collectively and got results for our Brothers and Sisters!”

“The collaboration of the Unions and the District ensured the best results for the health and safety of our employees, students and families,” CSEA Los Angeles 500 Chapter President Letetsia A. Fox said.

“The LAUSD labor partners, in partnership and collaboration, have worked diligently and tirelessly to negotiate health benefits for District employees across the board,” LASPMA President Alex Bello said. “The only acceptable goal during this effort was to reach an agreement that effectively maintains the level of health coverage and support that District employees have earned and are entitled to. The Los Angeles School Police Management Association is pleased to announce that after months of work, the combined labor partners have reached a tentative agreement with LAUSD. This agreement will not only maintain current levels of coverage and support, but also extend these benefits through December 2027. The men and women of the Los Angeles School Police Management Association would like to thank our labor partners and the District, for working together, being actionable, and demonstrating that the health and welfare of all District employees is a priority.”

“This victory is a result of our unwavering commitment to protect the healthcare of all active and retired employees,” Alex Orozco, UTLA Secondary Vice President and Lead Officer on Health Care Bargaining, said. “Through our organizing and historic rallies that showed the city what a collective force looks like, we were able to win this fight!”
